PTR Tanks Project, 20-year life extension, Koeberg Nuclear Power Station.
As part of a programme of upgrades required for the license extension by the South African Nation Nuclear Regulator, our team managed the engineering and on-site implementation of this iconic project on the Koeberg site, providing Project Management, Contract and Construction Management, Project Controls and Planning Management under an NEC Option A contract with the utility, to successful implement this first of a kind nuclear project.
The works entailed constructing two borated water storage tanks for the reactor cavity and spent fuel cooling system in SAF2205 Duplex Stainless Steel under the ASME III code, with each weld subject to 100% radiography (X-ray). The team successfully managed and coordinated the works on the Koeberg Site, using a 500t crawler crane to lift the tanks into their final position and integrate the many complex piping and other services connections into the plant.
Steam Generator Project, 20-year life extension, Koeberg Nuclear Power Station.
As part of a programme of upgrades required for the license extension by the South African Nation Nuclear Regulator, PC quanti provided a comprehensive team to manage the on-site implementation works of this iconic project on the Koeberg Operating Unit site, providing Project Management, Contract and Construction Management, Subcontractor management and coordination, Project Controls and Planning Management to the French specialist OEM, under an NEC3 Option A contract.
The works which took place during outages of the respective operating units entailed removing the original steam generators, 3 per unit, and handling and installing new steam generators weighing approximately 350t each. Our experienced team proved invaluable in the execution of this complex project that took several years to engineer, plan, and implement, involving substantial logistics, heavy lifting, major welding scope and multiple other activities in a first of a kind operation on African soil.
